Not your usual chicken! These birds are not the typical Cornish Cross chickens used by nearly all commercial chicken farms in the US. In fact, the chicken used in our Chicken Grind & Formula is a genetically unique breed developed recently to be exceptionally hardy, robust, healthy and fit without the use of pharmaceuticals and while living outdoors in our climate. A chicken that thrives when raised outdoors - wild & free - right here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Developed by Bill Niman personally; over several generations, he's carefully selected for robust vigor, health & resilience working with a specific combination of Heritage genetics. We're honored to be involved in this amazing project and to use these incredible chickens in our products. They thrive raised 100% naturally on open pasture in our climate/location - never medicated. When needed, we also bring in Pasturebird chickens as our "backup" source and these are the Cornish Cross chickens; pasture raised using a tractor system.

Our SFRAW Rabbit Grind is made by us here in our CDFA licensed and inspected facility in an open kitchen where you can freely witness us making this food. If you time it right, you can even get it FRESH, right off/out of the grinder and then buy it in bulk using your own containers and packing it up yourself for an additional 10% discount on the day we are processing it (this is true of all the products that we make). It is also available packaged by hand into our compostable plastic-free containers in a variety of different sizes (8 oz, 16 oz, 32 oz and 64 oz), frozen.
The wonderful rabbits we use are all sourced locally, raised with care by a local farming families brought to us by John Anderson; found on the menus of some of the finest local restaurants and used by the most discerning chefs in the SF Bay Area. They are never medicated (no hormones/antibiotics). However, they're not pasture-raised or certified organic.
Raised and then processed with oversight by John himself in a CA state licensed facility that serves local restaurants and retail meat shops. Inspected and retail packed by the producer for human consumption.
We grind the whole young fully-dressed fryer rabbits including the organs and bones (hearts, livers, kidneys and lungs, when available) PLUS, to boost the nutrition considerably, we include raw fresh/frozen RABBIT BLOOD (boosting the level of Vitamin B-12, CoEnzyme Q10 and bio-identical vitamin D. Most significantly though blood provides a unique nutritious form of added moisture - great for cats in particular- and is nature’s most concentrated source of heme iron. Indeed, blood has 5x more heme iron than spleen and 10x more than liver) and FURRY HEADS (including the glands, eyes, teeth, tongue, brains - which are rich in DHA, EPA and other essential fatty acids, plus brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and sphingomyelin found in the myelin. The hide and fur adds the ideal species appropriate prebiotic fiber for better digestion and contributes to supporting an improved microflora in the gut plus added manganese which is supports healthy joint and tendons, aiding to prevent possible injuries to these structures as well as providing a unique form of collagen and elastin).

Unlike many raw food producers, we do not rely on grinding up just the inexpensive parts and pieces of animals - because utilizing the entire/whole animal, whenever possible, provides a superior nutritional profile.
No water for processing is ever used.
We grind just once, into a medium consistency, to minimize the nutritional changes that occur with meat during processing and to provide your animal with textural interest and better, more natural digestion when feeding a ground product.

We use only UDSA inspected & approved fit for human consumption WHOLE fresh ducks, chickens, turkeys, quail and rabbits including the offal/organs for each animal (plus heads and feet, when possible). Our whole animal, medium consistency grinds provide an unparalleled nutritional profile by incorporating an abundance of high quality muscle meat plus nature’s perfect ratios of skin, fat, bones, cartilage, connective tissue, and organs. Note: Rabbit includes rabbit heads (furry with ears, brains, eyes - everything) and rabbit blood.
Lamb, pork, goat, venison and beef grinds are the exception to the use of the whole animal. For these products, we use only 80% the highest quality USDA inspected, truly pastured/wild/grass-finished primal cuts plus 10% organs and 10% ground bone from the same animal.

Our SFRAW Rabbit Grind is made by us here in our CDFA licensed and inspected facility in an open kitchen where you can freely witness us making this food. If you time it right, you can even get it FRESH, right off/out of the grinder and then buy it in bulk using your own containers and packing it up yourself for an additional 10% discount on the day we are processing it (this is true of all the products that we make). It is also available packaged by hand into our compostable plastic-free containers in a variety of different sizes (8 oz, 16 oz, 32 oz and 64 oz), frozen.
The wonderful rabbits we use are all sourced locally, raised with care by a local farming families brought to us by John Anderson; found on the menus of some of the finest local restaurants and used by the most discerning chefs in the SF Bay Area. They are never medicated (no hormones/antibiotics). However, they're not pasture-raised or certified organic.
Raised and then processed with oversight by John himself in a CA state licensed facility that serves local restaurants and retail meat shops. Inspected and retail packed by the producer for human consumption.
We grind the whole young fully-dressed fryer rabbits including the organs and bones (hearts, livers, kidneys and lungs, when available) PLUS, to boost the nutrition considerably, we include raw fresh/frozen RABBIT BLOOD (boosting the level of Vitamin B-12, CoEnzyme Q10 and bio-identical vitamin D. PREBIOTICS, ANTIOXIDANTS, MINERALS & MORE! Greens, brassicas, burdock root (awesome liver cleaner/detoxifier) and sunchokes "Jerusalem artichoke" (the fresh roots of a type of sunflower native to North America); sunflower greens/sprouts and broccoli sprouts. NETTLE is high in polyphenols (antioxidants) and can aid the body in flushing harmful bacteria from the urinary tract. It may also reduce the inflammation and pain association with osteoarthritis.
MICROBIOME SUPPORT: FEED & DIVERSIFY BENEFICIAL BACTERIA
This is food for your animal’s microbiome, primarily. A little goes a long way – don’t overdo it! If veggies are enjoyed and well-tolerated by your animal, they will only need a very small amount to feed all those “good bugs” and protect them from disease! Adding more is not better when it comes to veggies for dogs/cats – they have ZERO biological or nutritional requirement for veggies. They’re optional. Indeed, feeding too much veggie only takes away from the food they are biologically adapted to best digest and can actually derive nutrients from (meat & organs).
A healthy gut microflora (your internal garden) supports a healthy immune system, neurological function, lowers inflammation in the body and promotes wellness overall.
Many things interfere with a healthy intestinal microbiome community, including antibiotics, medical procedures, pesticides (such as flea/tick/heartworm drugs), surgeries, injuries, pain medications, vaccinations, poor dietary choices (refined carbohydrates, in particular, but also non-organic foods, processed diets, carcinogen containing foods, fats subjected to high heat, and foods tainted with glyphosate), and even physical or emotional stress. Including prebiotic foods such as sunchoke, dandelion, burdock, asparagus, and others regularly in the diet supports beneficial intestinal bacteria, with a corresponding decrease in bacteria known to be pathogenic and putrefactive.

DANDELION is a true superfood - prized for being a liver/kidney cleansing food, and digestive aid that is a super nutritious source of vitamins and minerals such as potassium that is among those foods highest in inulin (sunchoke is another!) It also helps the liver remove toxins more efficiently, has powerful liver-protecting properties, and prevents urinary tract infections. Dandelion greens also contain the flavonoid zeaxanthin, as well as the carotenoid lutein, both of which may help shield the retina from ultraviolet rays and reduce the risk for eye damage. The carotenoids alpha-carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin are present in dandelion greens as well — these compounds have been found to help lower the risk of lung and mouth cancers.
RAW GOAT MILK is an A2 milk which means it is considered easier to digest than non-A2 cow's milk. It is higher in some minerals and vitamins than cow's milk (selenium, calcium, potassium, sodium, copper, manganese, and niacin). This is a ‘live food product’ – goat milk is naturally homogenized, with naturally occurring beneficial bacteria and powerful enzymes remaining fully active. They moved operations indoors during the recent avian flu outbreak. They are primarily a hatchery and certify that their ducks/eggs are free from common diseases, including avian flu. Part of their biosecurity program is to keep the ducks indoors.
Nutritionally, these are not as nutrient dense and the omega profile is not the same as the 100% pasture-raised duck eggs that we normally get and prefer, but those are currently unavailable. Our usual back-up for local organic (but not pasture-raised) duck eggs are also unavailable at the moment, so we brought these in on the personal recommendation of our raw goat milk supplier. The sells these eggs at the local farmer's market every week. This was the farm he worked with when he had his own pasture-raised duck eggs, many years ago, They do a very good job raising their ducks and the eggs are of high quality.

They are popular with dairies due to the amount of milk they produce and they are recognized as the leading dairy goat breed for milk production.
Saanens are usually pure white or light cream, but white is preferred. Their ears should be a medium size and carried erect, preferably pointing forward. They have short fine hair and often have a fringe over the spine and thighs. They have a straight or dished face. They originated in Switzerland, but now represent the second most popular breed of dairy goat in the US.
