Guatemala is always on our minds here at Huckleberry, and even though the coffees from the AProCafé Aprocafé Growers Association might only be on our menu for a few months each year, these coffees represent year-round work and commitment from both Huck and the growers. After months of work and a bit of waiting, we’re always excited to drop this coffee back into the lineup.
We've been roasting coffee from AProCafé since 2015, and it’s been a hands-on relationship since day one. Several years ago we worked with the group to develop their first single farmer microlot program, and each year, have used a portion of proceeds from our holiday Sister Winter blend to help the group with a variety of projects.
AProCafé has used Sister Winter funds to purchase and apply organic-approved leaf rust prevention treatments, to build raised drying beds to improve coffee processing, and buy Brix meters to help in harvesting coffee cherries at their optimal ripeness. Three years ago, Sister Winter...

Isaias Ixcamparic, along with Pedro Izaias Gonzales, is the co-director of the Aprocafé Atitlán Growers Association in Guatemala, a producer group that’s fundamental to Huckleberry’s roasting. We’ve been roasting coffees from the group for a decade, and singling out coffees from the best individual farms and families for most of those years. But this is the first time we’ve featured either of the bosses’ coffees for one of our microlots!
Familia Ixacamparic is a more fitting name than El Jefe here, anyway. Running the association is a ton of work, and while Isaias has been an unsung hero for our coffees for years now, when it comes to the day-to-day on the family farm, Mercedes and Fernando, their oldest son, really run the show.

Over the past several years, Sookoo Coffee and its owner, Ture Waji, have gained well-earned notoriety for producing some of Ethiopia's best naturals. Sookoo means gold in the Guji region's Afaan Oromo language, and Sookoo Coffee focuses on naturals in the Guji region. While Sookoo has begun producing some washed coffees over the past couple harvests, the main focus remains on naturals: coffee dried in its fruit. And that focus pays off.
Sookoo has produced some of our favorite naturals over the years, though up until now, we’ve only roasted coffees from the company’s Raro Nansebo station. This year we branched out to the company’s Suke station, and it was hard to pass on this lot, coming specifically from farmers in the tiny community of Shoondhisa.
